Everybody's Ocean

Explore a tidal wave of art by 271 local artists sharing their relationship with the ocean.

Exhibited from December 19th, 2014 – April 19th, 2015

Part crowd-sourced, part curated this exhibition takes you through 271 artists' personal relationships with the sea.

The ocean represents anything from life to its hardships. Storytellers personify it as a wrathful god, a seductive spirit, or an indomitable force. The ocean is a living, shared space and one of the greatest unexplored mysteries of the world. Everybody interprets the ocean in different ways and when an open call out to Santa Cruz artists was made, the people delivered.

Curated anchor pieces and community-submitted artworks are nestled side by side, flowing around the room, taking you on a deep dive of the vast relationship we all have with the ocean. All submission periods are currently closed with a total of 271 submission and curator selections. Ultimately having to be split into two waves due to too many spectacular pieces of art.
