Join friends, neighbors, and local veterans at Evergreen Cemetery to commemorate Santa Cruz’s 152nd Memorial Day. Listen to speakers, join the pop-up museum, and honor those that have or continue to serve our country.

The Observance is held in the quiet Grand Army of the Republic plot at Evergreen Cemetery. This traditional remembrance features musical and spoken tributes from local community leaders, veterans and military including Chuck Woodson and the Defense Language Institute Active Personnel and ACWA 2nd Wisconson Infantry, Co. “H” and SVR’s 89th California Infantry Company C.

After the hour-long ceremony, enjoy a bbq lunch from One Nation Dream Makers. $10 donation. Serving noon-1:00 pm.

Add your loved one to the Pop Up Museum that honors those who have served our country.

Bring an object, memorabilia, or photograph to share with the public that honors your loved one who has served or is serving our country’s armed forces. We will ask you to write a brief label about the object and the person are honoring.

A Pop Up Museum is a temporary exhibit created by the people who show up to participate. It works by choosing a theme and location and inviting people to bring something on topic to share. This Pop Up Museum invites you to share your story with others to connect, share and collectively honor Memorial Day.

Also, be the first to check out new design concepts for the GAR Plot: A committee of local veterans is leading the development of a plan to renovate the Grand Army of the Republic plot at Evergreen Cemetery. This plot is for Union veterans of the Civil War and has been used for 150 years as a frequent focal point for a Memorial Day event in Santa Cruz. The project seeks to inspire new generations to recognize and learn about the history, influence, and values of the GAR and other early veterans by creating a beautiful, accessible, and educational memorial area.
