We’re celebrating the written word as a form of communication through letters, envelopes, and postcards. Join Santa Cruz Writes, as they invite visitors to engage in an introspective participatory project called Letters to the Self.  Letters to the Self  is linked to our current exhibition, Photo ID, which is centered on the theme of identity. People can answer questions about themselves before meeting a writer who will craft a letter or poem using a typewriter or handwritten with calligraphy on stationery.

Writers participating include: Claire Davidson, Karen Ackland, Colin Miller, Neal Hellman, and Alyssa Young.

Participants can also craft an envelope for their letters while waiting, or write their very own letter to a person who has made history in Santa Cruz in our history gallery.

In addition, join local students who have taken part in a Community Postcard Project and further celebrate their work as exhibiting artists here at the MAH! Since November, students from Green Acres Elementary and Amesti Elementary School have learned the basics of photography by looking at historical photos of their communities and through taking their own digital photographs. Their work combined explores the students’ relationship to their home communities, and how they have shared that with each other through postcards.

This event has been made free thanks to Doc Auto and Santa Cruz Sentinel.
