Pop Up Museum; Chinatown is in the Heart

Save to:

Take the museum outside of the museum with our series of Santa Cruz is in the Heart Pop Up Museums. A Pop Up Museum is a temporary exhibit created by you. Popping up in different locations, you’re invited to bring something on topic to share, and contribute to the community-wide story. This Pop Up Museum will celebrate China Town History:

Santa Cruz County was once the home of roughly a dozen Chinatowns and smaller Chinese villages—located from Davenport down to the Pajaro River. Held in the parking lot of Coamerica Bank, the site of a once thriving Santa Cruz Chinatown, this pop up invites you to explore the “hidden” history of Santa Cruz Chinese communities in the 19th and early 20th centuries. The event will follow a special Ghost Walk led by historian Sandy Lydon and George Ow, and will also include a brief presentation by Geoffrey Dunn, who will share some archaeological materials never before seen. Bring any Chinatown photographs or memorabilia or stories you might have. The pop up museum will take place in the three parking spaces directly adjacent to River Street.
