Davenport Jail MuseumHang out with some of the MAH’s awesome historical docents in Santa Cruz County’s smallest jail house with only two cells.  The Davenport Jail was built in 1914 and decommissioned in 1936 yet still exists as a reminder of rowdier times on the north coast.  It was only used twice as a jail.  After 1936, the county Sheriff department would transport any criminals to the county jail in Santa Cruz. In 1992, it was added to the National Registry of Historic Places.  Learn more about this former whaling and cement hub of the central coast at the at the small museum now inside the Davenport Jail. Located in between Ocean and Davenport Avenues on the Cabrillo Highway, the Davenport Jail is a great way to experience local history firsthand.
