Lighting Up Your Costumes: A Workshop in EL Wire with Geoffrey Nelson
Saturday October 19th 12-2PM. In the MAH Classroom. Ages 14 and up.
Price: $40 (not including material costs for EL Wire which ranges from $5-$30 depending on length). Limited spaces available.
Workshop Description: Make your own glowing costume with EL Wire! Learn the tools, techniques and everything you need to know about EL wire. Bring your own costume to work on during this workshop. Please bring any form of outerwear to attach the EL wire to including: jackets, hats, vests or even corsets. There will be a limited amount of EL wire for purchase for you to make your garments glow.
More about the artist: Geoffrey Nelson has been working on lit clothing for 14 years since he first attended Burning Man. He gives workshops in costume design for Burning Man at the Nevada Museum of Art and had a show, “A Tribe of Artists:Costume and Culture at Burning Man” tour Nevada for three years.
Make Your Own Glowing Collar/Necklace or Bow-tie with Mariclare McKnight.
Saturday October 19th 12-2PM. In the MAH Boardroom. Ages 12 and up.
Price: $40 (plus a $15 material fee for LED light strip and fabric). Limited spaces available.
Workshop Description: Make a one of a kind collar/necklace or bow tie embellished with LEDs! Mariclare will begin with a talk about fashion and technology and show examples of her work. You will then draft a design for your collar or bowtie. Mariclare will help you construct it, line it with LED lights and embellish it to your desire. Show it off later tonight at the digital festival in the evening or use it as part of your Halloween costume!
More about the Artist: Mariclare McKnight has a line of handbags and accessories, Cadette, which she designs and makes in Santa Cruz. She also loves to sew clothing and has a penchant for things that light up! She was recently a participating artist in Santa Cruz FashionART with “Robe Ilumine” a glowing dress replete with programmed LEDs.
