Fridays at the MAH: Radical Fibers

Save to:

New and unexpected crafts. Same beloved materials. Get hands on with sewing, weaving, and fiber-making like you’ve never experienced before.

All levels of experience welcome.

Make a protest banner

Participate in a Protest Banner Sewing Bee with members of The Fábrica Collective. Sew an appliqued protest banner, quilting bee-style.

Weave a digital quilt

Complete the circle and contribute to a circuit quilt with Colleen Jennings‘ Techne. Learn about the overlapping history of circuits and weaving, be a part of a weaving circle, and see how individual pieces help create a digital fiber quilt.

Dye fabric and paint an image

Learn how to add multiple colors to fabric and create soft images with brushes, water, and different dyeing mediums.

Piece together your mola

Make a mola inspired fabric design for you to keep or add to our community quilt. Mola are the colorful labels of cotton fabric and thread worn on the blouses of Kuna Women from Panama. They are a form of artistic expression and cultural identity.
