Radical Craft Night is back at the MAH! Challenge your traditional notions of craft at the MAH’s Radical Craft Night which takes crafting to the extreme.  Join us for a night of workshops, demonstrations, collaborations, performances, and making at the MAH:

Turn cardboard scraps into intricate wallets with Bay Area artist Kathryn Kenworth, create your own 3d wood canvases with local woodworker Jim Sloane, assemble knick-knack creations out of found objects with local artist Luke Wilson, turn timber into photographs with a wood photo transfer workshop run by artist and photographer Wei Hwu, fashion dried food wreaths with Sarah Daniel Thorp and Nicole Zahm from the Farmers Market, and witness an animal skinning and preservation demonstration with Alisa Leo, Paula Thena, and Laura Wrong from the art collective Carcasses and Companionship.

Get tangled up with sewing and knitting activities with The Fábrica, who will be hosting a communal sewing circle. Bring your own projects if you want or simply come empty handed and leave with a handful of new skills. Sew fabric cards and postcards with The Pajaro Valley Quilt Association, learn how to use hand-cranked sewing machines with Sara Homan, explode with radical yarn bombing with artist Denise Shaw, and explore the wonderful world of looms and weaving with Becca Haitt.

For the silly kid in us all, make wacky silhouettes with friends, catch your wildest dreams by making dream catchers, build a pyramid out of paper,  and string stranger bracelets for someday friends.

From 7:00-7:30pm, enjoy the craft of voice and harmony  with UCSC’s Co-ed A Cappella band Acquire A Cappella. From 7:30-8PM experience a dance and musical Angklung Gamelan performance by local Balinese musicians Anak Swarasanti.

And don’t miss a fiery blacksmithing demonstration with Michael Wood on the front street entrance, stone sculpting with Michael Neeley, and mosaic making with Santa Cruz Mosaic Artists Kathleen Crocetti, Lara Birchler, Su Gatch, Susana Arias, Linda Nadeau, Nancy Howells, Beth Purcell, and Denise Davidson

Kid Happy Hour 4-5PM *Please note these activities will extend through the evening. Kid Happy Hour returns this month, and more radical than ever! Come enjoy craft making geared for young children in our classroom from 4:00-5:00pm. This month we will be making bottle cap snakes, printing with Fall’s fresh fruits & vegetables, and painting with yarn. And guess who else is back? The Balloon Art Brigade with widely imaginative ballooning for your entire family to enjoy!
