Hours: Part-time, weekends and evenings as needed

Rate: $15-$18 hour, dependent on with skills and experience

Job Description:

As a MAH Igniter you will be responsible for creating memorable and sincere interactions with our guests and do your best to connect with our community and embody our mission and theory of change. This is a part-time, hourly, non-exempt position, and employment is at-will.

You will serve on a bilingual English/Spanish team who are the face of the MAH to hundreds of thousands of visitors every year. This team prides itself on creating the absolute best experience for everyone who visits us. You are Igniters-in-Chief -- the people who warmly and enthusiastically greet every single person who visits us. You get to take your interactions to the next level by inviting everyone you meet to go deeper at the museum, whether it’s through membership, joining our mailing list, volunteering or simply coming to our next event.

What You’ll be Doing

  • Greeting and welcoming: Your base is the front desk, but you go meet our guests anywhere in the Atrium where you’ll make outstanding first impressions by being warm, sincere and inviting to guests in the Museum.
  • Informing guests about current and future programs, events and exhibitions.
    Inviting 100% of guests to go deeper at the MAH by: becoming a member, volunteer or collaborator.
  • Selling admission tickets, MAH memberships, and store products
    Record Keeping: Maintain accurate admission records. Reconcile daily admission, membership and store receipts.
  • Answering the phone: Handle telephone inquiries and direct to appropriate staff.
  • Opening and closing: Periodically ensure that the building is ready for guests so that they can have a great experience. Open and close the galleries, resetting furniture or interactive activities as needed.
  • Keeping the museum running smoothly: Report any facility or gallery maintenance needs to the Facility staff or the exhibitions team. Conduct basic repairs or triage as appropriate during evening or weekend shifts.
  • Working events: Be prepared to work at events as necessary and ensure a great guest experience.
  • All hands on deck: Participate in up to 4 all hands on deck events per year as designated by your supervisor (GLOW, Dia de los Muertos, Museum Camp, The Red Ball).

You’re a Great Fit for this Job If:

  • You’re bilingual, English and Spanish (mandatory)
  • You are an empathetic person with the ability to take on someone else's perspective.
  • You’re a warm, high-energy, outgoing, people-person who has amazing customer service instincts.
  • You’re tech savvy and feel comfortable with Microsoft Office, Google products, and payment technology (like Square).
  • You can think on the fly, improvise, and solve problems under pressure
  • You’re comfortable handling cash and creating simple financial reports.
