Event Squad

Posted June 16, 2018

Lend a hand. Bartend. Lead an art activity. Greet folks. Be the MAH’s little (big) helper. There are a LOT of events at the MAH, and your personality, muscles, and love of being around people helps make these events even better for hundreds of visitors every month.

You: are a flexible, outgoing, courteous, energetic people-person who can occasionally lift tables and chairs.
Availability: Friday evenings and some weekends.
Time commitment: 1 event per month (about a 4-5 hour shift) for at least 3 months.
Training: On the job.

Evergreen Cemetery Restoration & Research

Posted June 16, 2017

With the help of some serious volunteer-powered digging, planting, and beautifying, Evergreen is seeing its best days as a historic landmark and resting place for Santa Cruz’s earliest pioneers. Help with restoration efforts or with research projects and genealogical inquiries.

Evergreen Restoration Volunteers are comfortable with gardening tools (for ivy digging, weed removing, and dirt shoveling) and have a way to get to Evergreen. *Tools and gloves are provided.
Evergreen Research Volunteers enjoy digging into historical materials and have access to a computer.
Availability: Restoration meets Fridays from 9:30am-12:30pm. Research projects are flexible.
Time commitment: 2 shifts per month for at least 3 months.
Training: On the job.

Art Ambassadors

Be the welcoming face of MAH exhibitions. Invite visitors deeper to explore on their own. Encourage them to look AND touch the interactive parts of each show. No expertise needed– you’ll be trained on the spot.

You: outgoing, friendly, passionate talking about local art and history and being on your feet for 2 or 3 hours.
Availability: Fridays (anytime from 11-9pm) and weekends (11-5pm) are a plus. Weekday shifts also available.
Time commitment: Attend 1-2 hr training before starting
